Outdoor Painting Workshop

Craft of the Landscape Painter
Assington Mill

Assington MillIf you want to be able to paint the world around you, to get outside and capture the effect of light on the landscape without resorting to copying photographs, then this one day workshop is for you.

Working close by the mill and in the surrounding private nature reserve we will paint a series of landscapes by direct observation. This course is aimed at oil painters of all levels although you are welcome to use acrylics if you prefer.

For those nervous of working out in the open the secluded location is ideal, at the end of a long track down into one of Suffolk’s beautiful ‘hidden valleys’ between Constable’s Stour Valley and Gainsborough’s home town.

All with the added bonus of home-made lunch, biscuits and cakes throughout the day.

September 2013, 10am – 5pm with the option of staying on in the evening
Assington Mill, Bures Road, Assington, Suffolk, CO10 5LZ

Stour Valley paintings

Stour Valley painting WP_001249
Stour Valley. Oil on canvas, 15 x 28 inches, 38 x 71 cm.

The recent hot weather has actually made it harder to paint outside in the last few weeks but as the blue skies seem to have been been  missing for so long it’s been great to get out and paint them.

Chelsworth Open Gardens

The last day of June was a stunner. If only the other 29 days had been as good. I went to Chelsworth in Suffolk for the wonderful Open Gardens day. This was painted on a little island in the River Brett while I listen to a band playing in the grounds of the nearby pub, The Peacock Inn. There is a short video clip below where you can hear the band and listen to water.
